Imerovigli

Typical view of Imerovigli Imerovigli is a beautiful and quiet village with many hotels, traditional houses, restaurants and tavernas. It is an extension of the island's capital Fira, but situated on a higher cliff.

The village, whose name harks back to the days of the pirates, consisting of two words, one Greek, imera, meaning day, and one of Italian origin, vigla, meaning vigil, enjoys breathtaking vistas of the caldera and the island's famous sunsets from its position at the highest, most central part of the caldera. It is a beautiful and quiet village; whose many hotels and traditional cave houses all enjoy this view from their location, built into the cliff. In front of the village lies a massive rock called Skaros. Until 1800 it was part of the land and had a Venetian castle on it, whose ruins are well worth a look. Also worth visiting is the old Church of Theoskepasti, with an impressive view to the isles of Palaia and Nea Kameni. The village is well connected, with bus lines linking Imerovigli with Fira, Firastefani and Oia.

In short, the village is the ideal place for a sophisticated holiday and therefore the home of some of the best luxury hotels on Santorini, combining the cosmopolitan lifestyle with the tranquility and beauty of nature.
