On the western side of the island is Agios Nikolas Bay and deep within it lies the port of Korissia or 'Livadi' - considered to be one of the safest natural harbours in the Mediterranean.
Korissia is the port of Kea and is where ferries from the mainland arrive and leave. So even if you are not staying here, it's the first place you'll encounter when you reach the island and it is well worth stopping off as you are bound to spend some time here during your stay.
A pretty blue domed church overlooks the harbour and its jumble of traditional houses that tumble down from the surrounding hillsides. Within easy reach of the capital Ioullis and the rest of Kea, Korrisia makes a great base from which to explore the island.
However, if you are not inclined to stray far, there is a long sandy beach stratching as far as the charming chapel of Agios Georgos - the perfect spot to while away your day before wandering back to spend a pleasurable evening in the harbour over good food and wine.
