This cluster of small villages on the southwest coast of the island will suit anyone wanting a peaceful and relaxing holiday. Sarlata is a tiny gem – a quaint village perched on the hillside near the wonderful beach at Ammes. Its position makes it an ideal base for exploring the rest of the island, whilst its proximity to other resorts prevents it from feeling isolated.
Avithos is a great choice for families – a superb sandy beach encompassed by two large coves, making the waters sheltered and safe for children to swim in. It also boasts a couple of charming tavernas where a delicious meal comes accompanied by fabulous views across to the neighbouring island of Dhias and Zante.
Not far from Avithos is the traditional village of Sovranata – a peaceful ‘off the beaten track’ spot with its handful of luxury villas, shops and some excellent tavernas (try Spiros Place for its unbeatable kalamari). Sovranata too is generally quiet and has its own delightful, uncrowded sandy beach.
