A cooking course on Santorini could be a good way to combine local flavour with a souvenir that lasts a lifetime.
The Telegraph recommended Tasting Places' classes with Rosemary Barron on Santorini.
She is the author of Flavours of Greece - which has been on the New York Times' Editor's Choice list and her courses are highly acclaimed.
Her Ancient Wisdom, Modern Tables classes combine food and wine with history and culture.
She says of Santorini: "The island ... has a haunting, mysterious beauty. As well as being the most subtly understated and fashionable of the Greek islands, it is steeped in history and has a wonderful food culture.
"It is an ideal place to learn the secrets of real Greek food".
As Mediterranean cuisine is also touted to be among the healthiest and credited for the longevity and quality of life for those who consume it, learning this skill could truly be the gift that keeps on giving.
