Holidays in Mykonos 'romantic'

The "dazzling white sand" beaches, famous windmills and Little Venice make Mykonos a special destination for hopeless romantics, a travel writer has said.
Rachel de Carlos wrote that Little Venice was a lover's paradise for its quaint homes with wooden balconies overlooking the water's edge, joined by slender passages which "zigzag past closed doors and shuttered windows".
The walk to the famous Mykonos windmills, she said, was "the perfect place for a stroll after sunset".
Writing for the Examiner, Ms de Carlos described tavernas set up for the intimacy of the couples enticed in by the aromas of the barbecues, with the tables overlooking the sea tastefully separated by palm trees and plants.
She also mused that the 1989 movie Shirley Valentine must have raised the profile of the island and contributed to its romantic image.
Other Greek islands have provided backdrops to famous films.
Captain Corelli's Mandolin was set and shot in Kefalonia and Mamma Mia! has brought many engaged couples to the islands of Skopelos and Skiathos.
